I see many people here write about Barack Obama as "BO". I've seen it many times here already just this morning.
I respectfully ask everyone to stop.
And I'd just as soon not see anyone call him "Barry" here anymore either.
Of all the intellectual dishonesty I see on this site every day, it's hard, maybe impossible to choose the worst example. There's so much to choose from; I could write a diary every day.
I could, but I don't want to. I have better things to do. But one example particularly irks me, and I see it so often I feel like I should say something about it. That example is the ubiquitous claim that Obama's caucuses wins are somehow fraudulent.
A great many Obama supporters are saying that we need to be patient and understanding with Clinton supporters right now.
That is certainly true, but Clinton supporters have a responsibility, too. They need to begin to accept her loss. She is not going to win. We all understand that it's hard to deal with one's candidate losing. I went through it myself a few months ago when John Edwards dropped out. But Edwards supporters did not threaten to bolt the party, or vote for McCain if he wasn't the nominee. We got to work behind either Clinton or Obama.
It's time for Clinton's backers to do the same. The race is not going to Clinton, unless Obama dies or something. That's just a fact. And to see Clinton's supporters frantically clingong to any shred of a rationale for her to keep going is sad.
I wrote a piece yesterday that I hoped a few people might see, and it upended a hornet's nest, which I had kind of hoped might happen, but I didn't think would. I'm glad that so many people read it and wrote about it, as racial problems in the U.S. are something I think we need to think about and talk about.
But in the 250-odd comments that people wrote, things kept going off on tangents and getting away from the main thrust of my piece. No doubt I could have made my points more clearly, and since I think this subject is important enough that we should keep talking about it, and since it gets hard to keep things organized when there are already more than 250 comments, I thought I'd try to explain a little better what I think the problem is.
A year or so ago, this was a great place to come to catch up on the news. I came here, to Daily Kos, and a few others like the Poorman, Talking Points Memo and Sadly No, every day.
A year ago, posters were already touting their candidates, but it seemed fairly neighborly. No more. Now, the only reason I really come here is to see how bad things have become.
